At 4:45am on February 22 the CFD was dispatched to a reported building fire at the old Country Lumber on Railroad Avenue

On arrival of the Asst Chief, he reported multiple buildings heavily involved in fire. Crews setup for a defensive attack using a ladder pipe, 2 deck guns and multiple hand lines. The fire was under control with an hour. Crews remained on scene for most of the day fighting hot spot fires while using an excavator to dig out the burning embers. Units responding where C4, E4, E6, E1, T1. Mutual aid from Prospect and Wolcott also assisted. The fire is under investigation by the Cheshire Fire Marshal’s Office and State Fire and Explosion Unit. DEEP also assisted with Hazmat on scene. No civilian or firefighter injuries.
