Cheshire Fire Fighters Respond to Structure Fire at Cheshire Academy
By CFD Web Administrator
August 14, 2015
On Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 9:29 PM, Cheshire Fire Fighters were dispatched to the Cheshire Academy property for a report of smoke coming from their maintenance building. Cheshire Engine 6 arrived on scene within three minutes of the dispatch and reported smoke visible from the building. Additional fire apparatus and personnel also arrived on scene and personnel immediately went to work to extinguish a fire in the lower garage area of the structure.
Fire Fighters faced several challenges as they found that the fire was rapidly extending beyond the original area of origin and throughout he building. Assistance was requested from the Southington, Prospect, and Wolcott Fire Departments due to the size of the building and rapidly advancing fire. Fire personnel placed the fire under control within two hours of the initial arrival on scene.
The fire is under investigation by the Cheshire Fire Marshal's Office. Photos provided by CFD Photographer Eric Granoth and CFD Member Chris Owen.

Shortly after arrival, the fire spread vertically through an interior wall cavity and vented through a hole cut in the roof by Cheshire Fire Fighters.
Immediately upon arrival, CFD members cut a garage door with a saw and advance a hose line into to extinguish the initial area of fire.
Fire vents through a hole in the roof cut by CFD members.
Fire visible from the roof and extending inside the exterior wall leading to the upper floor. CFD members were able to keep the fire from extending into the front sections of the building closest to Highland Avenue.
