Cheshire, Connecticut, Monday, May 9, 2016: More than forty (40) members of the Cheshire Fire Department participated in an intensive training session involving specialized vehicle extrication skills. The advanced level training class was administered by a team of veteran fire instructors that included experienced firefighters from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

Due to the type of skills being practiced and amount of vehicles required for this type of training, Cheshire businessman Barry Sutherland of Barry’s Automotive donated the use of his property at 1591 Highland Avenue and ten (10) salvaged vehicles for the drill.

Firefighters worked for just over four (4) hours on a variety of skills that included specialized vehicle rigging and lifting, vehicle stabilization, and vehicle extrication techniques. Firefighters were also able to try out several types of new rescue equipment that the Department is evaluating for future purchases.
